Joint research on the use of re-refined transformer oil presented at ICTRAM 2026
i-DE (Iberdrola Distribution), Nynas and Faramax jointly conducted a research project evaluating the use of re-refined transformer oil - a new product developed by Nynas - in power transformers manufactured by Faramax for i-DE. The result were presented at the 7th International Colloquium “Transforming Research and Asset Management” (ICTRAM 2026), held in Cavtat, Croatia, on 4-6 May 2026.

The study confirms that 100% re-refined oil can be deployed in HV power transformers without deviations from conventional design rules, testing methodologies or operational practices. Its drop-in use enables meaningful reductions in transformer carbon footprint while maintaining expected technical performance. Two months of field operation corroborated the factory findings, showing stable oil quality and negligible gassing so far.

The project represents another successful collaboration between i-DE, Nynas and Faramax in advancing practical and sustainable solutions for the power industry.

Joint R&D project with Iberdrola, Politec and University Comillas approved by CDTI
CDTI approved financing for our joint R&D project with i-DE (Iberdrola), POLITEC (Politec Proyectos y Servicios) and ICAI (Universidad Pontifica Comillas) for applications of Magnetically Controlled Shunt Reactors (MCSR) in distribution networks. The project under the name REMATE will be completed over the period of 3 years and will result in standardized range of MCSRs with rated power range of 2-5 MVAr for 10-35 kV. These mini-MCSR will be plug-and-play solutions to control voltage, reactive power and power factor at various node types and points of connection
